Biography

Dr. Hingrid Kujawinski is originally from Brazil. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (2001) and a Bachelor of Music in Choral Conducting from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (2008). While studying she worked as piano teacher and collaborative pianist for singers, instrumentalists, and choirs. From 2003 to 2009 she worked at the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul’s Choir in Porto Alegre, where she used to prepare the choir for operas and other symphonic works, and to provide piano accompaniment for musical and stage rehearsals for operas.

In 2009 she moved to the United States to study Choral Conducting with Dr. Peggy Dettwiler at Mansfield University, PA where she also worked as a graduate assistant. At Mansfield University she had the opportunity to conduct college level choirs, including the partial conducting of the women’s choir in the 2011 Llangollen International Competition (Eisteddfod – Wales)—A performance that awarded her the highest score in that segment of the competition and the comment “Elegant conducting”. In 2011 she graduated from that University with a double master’s degree in Choral Conducting and Collaborative Piano.

In 2016 she graduated from Rutgers University, NJ with her Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Gardner. While pursuing her doctoral degree she worked as Teaching Assistant from 2012 to 2015 for the Kirkpatrick Choir, and as adjunct professor - Director of the Voorhees Women’s Choir from 2013 to 2016. Her choir was a finalist in the American Prize Competition in 2016 and received an honorable mention from the jury for the excellence and diversity of its repertoire. Also, in 2016 she was a finalist in the American Prize Competition in the category of university choir directors.

Her research on Villa – Lobos’s compositions for women’s choir has been well-received at International Symposiums and Conferences and she holds the licence of two pieces by Villa-Lobos that are not being published anymore, which were provided by the Fermata do Brasil publishers together with Villa-Lobos heirs.

Since 2018 Dr. Kujawinski is Associate Professor at the Universidad Austral de Chile where she is the Choral Activities Director and teaches Theory and Aural Skills.

La Dra. Hingrid Kujawinski es originaria de Brasil. Tiene títulos de pregrado de Intérprete Superior mención piano de la Universidad Federal de Santa María (2001) y en Dirección Coral de la Universidad Federal de Rio Grande do Sul (2008). Paralelamente a sus estudios académicos, trabajó asiduamente como profesora de piano y pianista acompañadora para cantantes, instrumentistas y coros. Desde 2003 hasta 2009 trabajó junto al Coro de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Río Grande del Sur en Porto Alegre, preparando el coro para óperas y otras obras sinfónicas, acompañando al piano en ensayos musicales y de escena, en el caso de las óperas.

En 2009 se trasladó a Estados Unidos para estudiar Dirección Coral con la Dra. Peggy Dettwiler en Mansfield University, Pennsylvania, donde también trabajó como asistente de posgrado. En la Mansfield University ella dirigió coros de nivel universitario, incluyendo la dirección parcial del coro femenino en el 2011 Llangollen International Competition (Eisteddfod – Wales)— esta presentación recibió la mas alta nota en la categoría de la competición y también el comentario: “Dirección elegante”. En 2011 se graduó de esa universidad con un doble Máster en Dirección Coral y Piano Acompañamiento.

En 2016 obtuvo su Doctorado en Artes Musicales mención Dirección Coral en Rutgers University, Nueva Jersey, bajo la guía del Dr. Patrick Gardner. Mientras cursaba su doctorado trabajó como asistente de enseñanza del Coro Kirkpatrick, de 2012 a 2015, y como profesora adjunta de la universidad, dirigiendo el Coro Femenino Voorhees de 2013 a 2016. Su coro fue finalista en el Concurso American Prize en 2016 y también recibió una mención honorífica del jurado por la excelencia y diversidad de su repertorio. También en 2016 fue finalista en el American Prize en la categoría directores de coros universitarios.

Charlas sobre su investigación sobre la música de Villa-Lobos para coro femenino han sido bien recibidas en Simposios, Festivales y Conferencias internacionales y en 2017 ella editó dos obras de Villa-Lobos para coro femenino con una licencia otorgada por herederos de Villa-Lobos representados por la publicadora Fermata do Brasil.

Desde mayo de 2018, es la directora del Coro de la Universidad Austral de Chile y desde marzo de 2019 es Profesora Asociada en la Carrera Artes Musicales y Sonoras, en la misma universidad, donde enseña teoría y lectura musical.
